This article approachs the text “A escola uspiana de história”, by Maria Helena Rolim Capelato, Raquel Glezer and Vera Lucia Amaral Ferlini, published in 1994 in the journal Estudos Avançados, based on the connection between memory and identity. I intend to discuss the way those three historians from USP have enunciated a historiographic identity in a strong connection with a disciplinary and institutional memory tied to São Paulo University, specially the Faculty of philosophy, Letters and human sciences. Divided into three great moments, the article also relates this enunciation of identity to the brazilian historiography in the latest decades of last century.
